How to Report a Workplace Injury

Even though new and more innovative measures are being put in place to ensure the safety of employees of factories, offices, retail stores and other establishments in Oklahoma and the United States as a whole, there will always be workplace injuries. Therefore every business should assess the probability of workplace accidents and ensure maximum protection for their workers through proper safety programs, safe workplace equipments as well as put up an adequate reporting channel to keep account of all employee accidents.

All employees should be educated on the correct channel of reporting all types of injuries sustained personally or by third parties at the workplace, through extensive instructions in workers' handbooks, safety manuals and all types of training programs and seminars held for employees. Businesses should be allowed the opportunity to assess injuries caused by faulty machinery or dangerous job requirements, for the right steps to be taken to ensure that similar accidents do not repeat themselves.

It's no secret that an accident which occurs once, has a high probability of repeating itself, especially if it was caused by a particular faulty machine or one which is unsafe to operate. The officials of a firm will therefore have to put in enough measures to ensure other injuries do not occur.

The correct report of injuries will give supervisors the ability to access trends and identify the most dangerous areas in the workplace. The steps below should be implemented upon the occurrence of a workplace injury.

The first thing to do is to halt everything you are doing and go to the rescue of the victim immediately. Then you have to analyze the extent of the injury and contact emergency medical staff if the injury is severe.

If the injury isn't severe then offer first aid to the injured personnel by dressing any wounds and applying bandages to prevent the infection of the wound. You should also clean and disinfect any areas if there has been a blood spill.

You should then write a proper account of the injury including what you saw and statements from other employees who were around to witness the accident. The final step will be to report the injury to the appropriate quarters. This documentation will ensure that compensations are paid when necessary and the right steps are taken to prevent similar future occurrences.
